There was coverage recently on WTNH News on Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters and on the organization’s annual Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Year Awards event, which was held virtually for the first time ever this year. Emcee for the event was WTNH news reporter Samaia Hernandez, a former Big Sister with Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters. The WTNH television coverage also ran on news broadcasts on WTNH’s sister station in Connecticut, WCTX.

The coverage featured Big Sister Nicola Culmo and her Little Sister Jenalys. Nicola is Nutmeg’s Big Sister of the Year. The other award recipients at the virtual event were: Big Brother Pablo Figueroa, Big Brother of the Year; Norma Sanchez, Foster Grandparent of the Year for Nutmeg’s Greater Hartford region; Big Brother Sean Flynn, recipient of the John M. Clapp Outstanding Mentor of the Year award; and Big Sister Madison Gilbertson, recipient of the Victoria L. Soto Memorial Award. Two Children’s Champion Awards were also presented at the event. One went to Dan Toscano, Chairman of the University of Connecticut’s Board of Trustees, and Global Head of Leveraged and Acquisition Finance at Morgan Stanley. The second award was presented to John Emra, President of AT&T New England.
