Jay M. Cronin has joined Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters as Individual Gifts Officer. The announcement was made by Andy Fleischmann, President and CEO of Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters.

At Nutmeg, Cronin will establish and deepen relationships with individuals throughout Nutmeg’s market area who share the youth mentoring organization’s goal of helping children in need reach their full potential through professionally supported, one-to-one match relationships with volunteers.

“We’ve served more than 67,000 children across the state since our founding,” said Andy Fleischmann. “But, research tells us there are thousands more children out there who are still very much in need of Big Brothers Big Sisters’ mentoring. I know that Jay’s great personal experience as a Big Brother, combined with his energy, creativity and passion for our work, will make him a great ambassador for our team – so that we can reach more children who need mentors.”

Cronin was born in London, England and grew up in Westport, Connecticut. He graduated from Boston University with a degree in Business Administration, Entrepreneurship/Entrepreneurial Studies. Prior to joining Nutmeg, Cronin was Collegiate and Community Partnerships Coordinator at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay in Boston. Earlier, he taught elementary English and math with WorldTeach in the Marshall Islands. In the United Kingdom, he was a Business Information Executive with Xerox. Cronin currently resides in West Hartford.

“I became a Big Brother when I was studying at Boston University,” said Cronin. “What I experienced as a ‘Big’ with my Little Brother Jamani changed the trajectory of my life. I became a deeply committed advocate for mentoring, which led to a job at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay. Now, in my new position at Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters, I’m excited to have the opportunity to spread the word about mentoring to a whole new audience – to tell them just how much it benefits children, their families and their communities.”

Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters is an affiliate of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, the 114-year-old national youth mentoring organization. Founded in 1966 and based in Hartford, Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters serves 132 of Connecticut’s 169 municipalities.
